Approaching KyoAni Studio Burning Warning, a Man is Arrested for Threatening Kodansha
On July 17, nearly a year since the KyoAni Studio arson tragedy, a man was arrested for threatening the Kodansha publisher. Like the suspect in the KyoAni case, this suspect claims that the company did something he didn’t expect with his novel.
At KyoAni, the arson suspect said that his novel was stolen. As for the Kodansha case the reasons are somewhat different: according to Anime News Network, the suspect appears to be angry that his novel submission was rejected.
The suspect in the Kodansha case, a 44-year-old man, has posted on Twitter how he wanted to “smash their heads with a hammer and cut them with a machete,” and “go to the editorial department and rip and perforate them”.
Now that he has been arrested, the suspect says he “never intended to make threats”. Kodansha first learned of this threatening tweet in May and contacted the police.
Good job, police officer. Of course we all don’t want the terrible tragedy that befell KyoAni to happen again.
