Because of this case, EVO Online 2021 was forced to be canceled
Evolution Championship Series or commonly known as (EVO) is an esports tournament that is devoted to fighting games, EVO is always held annually. Previously, this year’s EVO was switched to an online event, but unfortunately this was canceled due to a case that happened to the CEO.
Reported by eurogamer, the former president and co-founder of EVO, Joey Cuellar accused of sexual harassment. This is explained through the account Twitter officially.
Translate:
Over the past 24 hours, in response to serious allegations recently published on Twitter, we have made the first of a series of important decisions regarding the future of our company. Effective immediately, Joey Cuellar will no longer be involved with Evo in any capacity. We are currently working towards complete separation from the company and have relieved it of all responsibilities.Going forward, Tony Cannon will act as CEO; in this position, he will take a leadership role in prioritizing greater accountability throughout Evo, both internally and at our events.
Progress does not happen overnight, or without the courage of those who speak out against transgression and injustice. We are both shocked and saddened by these events, but we are listening and committed to making every change that will be needed to make Evo the better model for the stronger, safer culture we all seek. As a result, we will be canceling Evo Online and will work to issue refunds for all players who choose to purchase badges. We will donate the same results as promised to Project HOPE.
This incident made many of the fans who had been waiting for him look so disappointed. The CEO position of EVO has now been replaced by Tony Cannon.
