Now eSports is Officially Contested in the SEA Games

GridGames.ID – Thanks to its fame, eSport has even been competed in a number of prestigious sports events. As in the 2021 Asian Games in Indonesia, even though it is still an exhibition and has not yet been competed for a medal.

Now, eSport is officially part of the sport that is competed for medals which will debut at the SEA Games next year.

The biannual sports party involves participants from 11 countries in Southeast Asia and will be held in the Philippines in 2021.

The SEA Games will mark the first time eSports has been included as a legal medal sport under the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Philippines SEA Games Organizing Committee (PhilSGOC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) have teamed up with gaming company Razer to bring competitive gaming to such sporting events for the first time in history.

So far, a popular mobile game title Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has been confirmed as one of the six eSports game titles that will be competed.

Later there will be six gold medals which will be divided into three platforms, namely: mobile game, PC and console, each of which will compete in two game titles.

“Esports has been a major part since Razer was founded, and we’ve been supporting a lot event global, tournaments, teams, and athletes over the past decade and a half, “said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer.

“The sports and fighting spirit that exist in eSports are no different from other types of sports, and we have struggled to include them in international sports events such as the 2021 SEA Games.”

Besides Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, five other game titles reportedly will be announced on December 15th.
