Salute, These Two Teens Help Pay Off Parents' Debt With Games

GRIDGAMES.ID- Two teenagers from England, Ben and Matthew Horton, have made their parents proud. Since childhood, the twins have been able to earn their own money through games.

In fact, through this hobby, both of them can help pay off their parents’ home mortgage debt in Norfolk, England.

Ben and Matthew, now 20, first earned £ 600 from gaming when they were both 13 years old.

The father, Mark Horton, was initially surprised to learn that his two sons had such a large balance in their savings account. He was suspicious that his two children made that much money selling drugs.

However, these thoughts are only limited to Mark’s prejudice. Instead of being addicted to drugs, Mark’s two sons were attracted to something else, namely video games.

Different from most teenagers, the addiction experienced by Ben and Matthew actually causes positive things.

It all started with an online game called Roblox, a free online game that allows users to design their own minigames, and play games created by other players.

Because they love playing these online games, Ben and Matthew decided to try to make their own mini-game creations. Both of them also created the Boat Ride game, a mini-game with the theme of a fantasy world like Disney World.

Initially, the Boat Ride could be enjoyed by players for free. Then, Ben and Matthew decided to present a premium feature in their mini-game.

Premium features allow other players to fly around the world of Boat Ride using a jet-pack. Both set a price of 5 pounds (around Rp. 94,000) for every player who wants to enjoy these features.

“We only get an allowance of £ 1 per week. So, the first 5 pounds means a lot to us,” said Matthew.

As time went on, other players began arriving to play the mini-games made by the twins. As a result, both of them managed to raise funds of 600 pounds (around Rp. 11.3 million) only from Roblox.

Ben chose to study programming languages and learn interface design, while Matthew produced videos to market their homemade games. Uniquely, they learn all these things purely from the internet.

At the age of 16, both of them took a big step by dropping out of school to concentrate in their field.

“We did not have formal training. We just taught ourselves and repeated the whole process,” continued Matthew.

“The Last Guest has over 100 million views and has over 25 million hours of viewing time on YouTube,” said Matthew.
