Director Violet Evergarden admits that she didn't originally plan to have a sequel film

In conjunction with the release of Violet Evergarden: The Movie, director Taichi Ishidate recently shared his thoughts with Newtype on making a movie sequel to his TV series.

“In the TV series, whether Gilbert lives or dies is not shown, but even if Violet never sees him again, he will continue to live,” Ishidate said.

“Personally, that’s the whole story I want to tell. So when the talk of a sequel came up, I actually said there was nothing else I wanted to do. But when I read the plot written by scriptwriter Reiko Yoshida, it was so convincing that I got the urge to make a sequel. “

He added, “However, if the focus is only on Violet and Gilbert then it will become a love story. I don’t make TV series with that in mind. When I wonder what should I do, [produser Shinichiro] Hatta told me, ‘This is really a story about Violet’s journey. ” ‘
