Launching the gamespot.com site, Five Nights at Freddy’s film based on the horror video game series will finally be produced, after a long planning. Series creator Scott Cawthon has selected the script for the film and filming will begin in the spring of 2021 at Blumhouse’s Get Out studios.

Writing on Reddit, Cawthon outlined a number of different scripts for the film. Some of these scripts were written by Cawthon himself, while other unnamed authors also submitted scripts. In addition, “famous studio” and “famous director” were involved in the bid, but Cawthon did not name the famous studios and directors.

Cawthon says he’s run into a number of challenges with this script. “This is the first attempt I made myself to write the screenplay after realizing it would be difficult to find someone else with sufficient knowledge to do it,” he said, “Unfortunately, it also means this scenario is very bad because of my lack of experience in writing.”

There is no word yet on who will star in the FNAF film or who can direct it. However, Harry Potter and Home Alone director Chris Columbus is mentioned to direct.

Cawthon was fiercely protective of the Five Nights at Freddy’s films and will take his time to make sure the filming gets done right. It’s been a long and challenging process to find the right script, but Cawthon says he won’t compromise on the story.

“I was determined to find the right story,” he said in 2021. “I’m sticking to what I’ve always said: either the right film is made or no film is made. If that means I have to start more than ten more times, then that’s what I’ll do. The good thing is every effort is getting better and better, in my opinion. So, despite the delay, it’s going in the right direction. “
