Sony Announces Full Specifications of PlayStation 5

Sony has launched full specifications for the PlayStation 5, and it is an important evolution from the PlayStation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro.

Here are the full specifications:

  • CPU – 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
  • GPU – 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)
  • GPU architecture – Custom RDNA 2
  • Memory / interface – 16GB GDDR6 / 256-bit
  • Memory bandwidth – 448GB / s
  • Internal storage – Custom 825GB SSD
  • IO throughput – 5.5GB / s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB / s (Compressed)
  • Expandable storage – NVMe SSD Slot
  • External storage – USB HDD Support
  • Optical drive – 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive

The SSD used is mega, and the main developer Mark Cerny said that over and over again they asked SSDs to be fully hardware for their vision. In addition, this SSD can read 5.5 gigabytes per second (PS4 can only read 50 to 100 megabytes per second) this time they also fill it with 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, which can read the system in two seconds. The PS5 has a smaller number of teraflops than the Xbox Series X, however Cerny explains that teraflop numbers are a “dangerous” method of measuring hardware performance. However, the PS5 and Xbox Series X rely on the CPU, the GPU from AMD, so it’s still a very decent comparison.
