Sony wants to spread its wings in anime, challenge Netflix and Disney

Big company Sony is busy releasing movies, music, and video games, and is preparing to really launch its anime and challenge Netflix and Disney in this business. Netflix has increased the number of their anime, and Disney… Well, anyone who knows Marvel, Star Wars, or The Simpsons knows that Disney is constantly growing.

“Our group wants to contribute in bringing Japanese anime to fans around the world,” said Kenichiro Yoshida, President of Sony, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.

One of their key assets is the anime Demon Slayer or Kimetsu no Yaiba. Seeing how companies like Disney make money not only from property but from the things around them – for example, merchandise, pop songs, video game tie-ins, etc. – Sony made plans to do the same.

And Sony already has Aniplex, Funimation, PlayStation, Animax Broadcast Japan, and Sony Music Entertainment and can take advantage of these different subsets. Using Demon Slayer as an example, Sony has adapted the original manga into anime, and is preparing films and video games for the PlayStation 4 and mobile devices.

One of the next planned steps is turning Sony into the Sony Group, which should occur in the spring of next year. Well, we’ll see how this company will continue to grow in the future.
