AT&T Consider Selling Crunchyroll to Sony

Reporting from The Information, the latest rumor has it that AT&T wants to sell Crunchyroll to Sony for $ 1.5 billion.

However, Sony reportedly refused with this price, and negotiations are ongoing at this time. Meanwhile, Variety reports that apart from Sony, Crunchyroll is looking for other potential buyer options priced at at least $ 1 billion.

If negotiations with Sony continue and are successful, that means the company will own Crunchyroll and Funimation, leading to less competition in the anime streaming business.

Why is AT&T selling Crunchyroll, especially after it is (semi-) integrated into the latest HBO Max? Well, it turns out that one of the reasons is because the parent company AT&T itself has debts worth $ 151 billion.

AT&T bought Crunchyroll together with parent company Otter Media in 2021. Crunchyroll recently announced that it has reached 3 million subscribers. Currently, they are also on the rise with many popular original anime releases.

So, how do you think about this latest gossip?
