Despite being the original developer, Westwood Studios, lost the code from the game, Nightdive able to reverse engineer the code and import it into its own machine to bring up the remastered version.
Chief developer of Nightdive, Larry Kuperman say:
The rumors were true, that the code from the original Blade Runner was missing. We painstakingly reverse-engineered the code, importing it into our own KEX engine, a powerful tool that allowed us to port classic console models, even into quite challenging situations.
CEO Nightdive, Stephen Kick continues with the visuals and gameplay of the game and ensures that his team will preserve Westwood’s vision in its remastered version:
Blade Runner is an extraordinary accomplishment, so while we use KEX to improve graphics and enhance the gaming experience in a way you’ve never seen before, we still maintain Westwood’s vision and gameplay on all sides. Even though this game is an old game, now you can play it on a modern platform, it shouldn’t look and feel like it used to, but it is comparable to today’s game graphics.
The release date of this game is still unconfirmed, however Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition is expected to be launched in 2021.
