Chrysler Building Removed from Spider-Man: Miles Morales!

Spider-Man

Spider-Man: Miles Morales features detailed depictions of iconic buildings and landmarks from New York City. The Chrysler Building which was once the tallest building in the world is one of the major landmarks of New York City. However, this building has disappeared from the PlayStation 4 Spider-Man game and its sequel Miles Morales due to copyright issues.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, developer Insomniac has locked out the copyright rights to include the Chrysler Building in the game. But in early January 2021, ownership of the building changed from the Abu Dhabi Investment Council to Austria’s SIGNA Group and RFR Holding LLC.

The Chrysler Building

The two new owners didn’t want their buildings to appear in the game. For whatever reason, Insomnia and the new owners were unable to come to an agreement to feature the Chrysler Building at Miles Morales.

“When creating a representation of our city, we wanted to include as many landmarks as possible to add depth.” James Stevenson, director of the Insomniac community, told Game Informer. “Sometimes negotiations to use the location don’t work, as was the case with the Chrysler Building in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.”

Architectural works such as the Chrysler Building can be protected by copyright, like any other art form. So remaking this building for such commercial use is prohibited. Now the Chrysler Building has been replaced by a standard building with the dominant box design.

Even though there is no Chrysler Building presence in the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game, that doesn’t make the game’s quality any less. Because besides these iconic buildings, there are still many New York City landmarks present, such as the Manhattan Bridge, Battery Park, Madison Square Garden and many more.
