Modder Add Ray Tracing to NFS Underground

Talking about the Need for Speed game, the majority of gamers agree that the Need for Speed Underground game is the best NFS series ever. Even though it is graphically inferior to the NFS series which was released after Underground, the gameplay and sound in the NFS Underground game is superior.

So this is where the modders come into play. They try to improve the visual quality of NFS Underground by adding other effects. Recently a modder named Stre1itzia has just added a visual mod “ray-tracing” for lighting simulation in Need for Speed Underground to make it more realistic. However, this is not true ray-tracing considering that older games like NFS Underground do not have this feature.

The effect produced here is a combination of the NFS Underground Redux mod which is inserted by Pascal’s Screen-Space Ray Traced Global Illumination Shader. The short gameplay below shows how the reflection of objects on a wet road is reflected. However, it must be admitted that the effect is not as good as real ray tracing.

What do you think? Isn’t that cool?
