Valve Plans To Launch Special Steam In China

We all know that China is one of the countries with strict censorship in the internet entertainment sector. The impact of this censorship even led to Google and Facebook being banned from China. Until now, many parties believe that Steam itself is one of the accesses to the outside world through games.

However, the policy that will be implemented recently is likely to be detrimental to many parties, including developers. Yes, Valve plans to launch Steam specifically for the Chinese region. The problem is that games wishing to enter the “special” Steam must comply with local laws. It is believed that this policy will have an impact with fewer games available because they do not pass the requirements.

Indie game developers from China themselves are worried that their games will be more difficult to market if this policy comes into effect. They still hope that the global version of Steam can still be accessed.

Valve itself has emphasized that this policy is aimed at making Chinese developers more prosperous. However, game developers still feel unsure, especially because until now it is not clear whether International Steam can still be accessed or not if the Chinese regional Steam has actually been launched.
