Weathering With You Get New Epilogue for Broadcast in Japan
Weathering With You, the mega-hit from Makoto Shinkai, will be broadcast on Japanese terrestrial TV for the first time on January 3, 2021. And Makoto Shinkai himself has created a special epilogue for the broadcast that reflects the difficult year 2021 for everyone.
The one-minute clips share messages such as, “the only thing we can do in this world is keep on living,” and “let’s tackle these difficult times together.”
This epilogue was inspired by the English title for the film (Weathering With You which is in Japanese called Tenki no Ko), due to the fact that “weathering” means “to overcome” or “hold back,” something we will continue to do throughout 2021.
And for those who have not seen and are curious about Tenki no Ko, the movie itself was released in theaters last year. You can also watch it online on the subscription site for streaming movies or anime that you like.
Here’s a synopsis of Weathering With You:
a young boy from a remote village in Shikoku, who leaves home and decides to live in Tokyo. On his way, he met Keisuke, a strange man who offered to help him. Feeling strange with this person, Hodoka decided to try to find another fortune. However, he faced difficulties that came and went on his way. After sleeping on the street several times because there was no one else to contact, Hodoka decided to contact Keisuke. Hodoka gets an offer to work as a writer for Keisuke’s local magazine that discusses the supernatural and strange things. While in Tokyo, Hodoka is always followed by strange weather where it rains incessantly. While writing a story, he heard the story of weather control. He tries to find the truth of an urban legend where there is a young girl who has the power to stop the rain and make the sky clear again. This search led him to meet Hina Amano, a girl who has extraordinary powers that can control the weather.
